New launches from &Tradition: Layers of Materiality

I thought today I would share some beautiful interior images from &Tradition’s latest launches. This is where there is still magic in the still – poring over an image, appreciating the little details in a design and stopping a while to take it all in.

For Autumn 2022, the theme for Danish brand &Tradition is ‘Layers of Materiality’. This season’s designs have been carefully curated to build layers of tactile materiality and texture in the home and office. The aim is to create an enticing visual scene for the senses but also help us deepen our connection with the materials and spaces around us.

New additions to the &Tradition family include:

– X by Hvidt & Mølgaard
X has been brought back to life from the archives. Danish design duo Hvidt & Mølgaard first designed the X chair in 1959, after being inspired by the form of old tennis rackets and experimenting for a number of years with laminated wooden frames. The chair combines a graceful frame in oiled oak with a woven, natural rattan seat. The finishing detail is a solid walnut insert that fits seamlessly into the centre of the smooth, x-shaped leg joint.

– Alima by Note Design Studio
Alima is a design that came out of lockdown – Stockholm-based Note Design Studio was inspired to create a storage unit that could help organise the ‘creative chaos’ of working from home. Intended to bridge the gap between home and office, the steel trolley is designed to slide under a dining table or desk and house books, magazines or objects. It could be used to tuck away work things at the end of the day, or alternatively as a bar trolley for drinks in the living room. The metal frame is finished with a natural leather handle and a removable wooden tray in oak or walnut.

– Rotate by Space Copenhagen
Inspired by the Japanese art of origami, Rotate is a versatile trolley that is made out of one single piece of sheet metal, which has been cut into two pieces, before being bent and welded together. Sitting on discreet wheels, it can be used as an office trolley, a bedside table or a bathroom cabinet. It comes in four warm colours.

For lighting, there’s three new characterful designs to &Tradition’s collection:

– Colette by &Tradition
Colette, named after the French author of the same name, was created by the &Tradition design team as a modern interpretation of a fabric lamp. The simple, lightweight design is finished in an off-white, cotton-linen blend fabric with a contrasting red or black trim detail.

– Herman by Signe Hytte
The Herman lamp is named after Danish author Herman Bang and takes inspiration from the traditional lamps that would have been popular during the time he wrote his classics. It is comprised of a cream marble base, a marble stem and an opal glass lampshade that offers a soft, diffused glow.

– Raku by Sebastian Herkner
Named after the traditional Japanese pottery technique, Raku is a unique design that features a handmade ceramic base. Each piece varies slightly in finish, thanks to the imperfect crackle glaze. The portable lamp is finished with an aluminium or brass shade with a perforated edge that allows light to filter through it.
